Everything is nearly lined up for the 2020 National Conference! This includes an invite to the Federal Minister for Ageing and Senior Australians to open our Meals on Wheels National Conference, which was presented to him last week!

The 2020 National Conference provides a wonderful opportunity to connect and engage with a wide range of leaders and volunteers from right across
Australia, representing over 590 services and 76,000 volunteers, in a first of its kind repositioned conference which will be held right here in Tasmania!

The conference will bring together previous state conferences and will
provide a place to share innovation, best practice, challenges, reform
updates and engage with communities passionate about supporting older people to age well in their homes.

Simply fill out an application form and send it back to us at 103A Grove Road, Glenorchy 7010 or email your completed form to office@mowtas.org.au and once your application has been approved by the board we will send you an invoice for payment. Anyone is welcome to become a member.

State Office Move

The Meals on Wheels Hobart and Glenorchy branch coordinators, Jodi & Lauren, are very excited to have moved into our new offices at 103A Grove Road, Glenorchy. The staff at State Office will be joining them there shortly. Meals on Wheels would like to thank Katrina Pailthorpe for delivering the beautiful flowers to Jodi & Lauren on their first day in the new office.

Vantage Group Wine Donation

Meals on Wheels Clients in the Hobart and Glenorchy areas were treated to a piccolo of wine to go with their meal over the festive season. We would like to say a huge thank you to Vantage Group for their kind donation to our clients. Vantage Hotel Group (Vantage Group) operates across Tasmania through community-based hotels and the 9/11 Bottleshop retail liquor chain, employing over 420 people state-wide. Client Christmas Lunch

A Christmas Lunch was held for some of our clients on Tuesday 20th of December at the Mouth Waters Cafe. They were served with a traditional Christmas lunch of ham and turkey and roast veggies with bread and butter pudding for dessert. We also had a three piece band playing some traditional Irish music for us and a few Christmas Carols as well. The day was enjoyed by all.

Port Sorell Volunteer Function

The Port Sorell Branch of Meals on Wheels Tasmania held their volunteer Christmas luncheon yesterday (6th December). Pictured below are the dedicated volunteers who do a fantastic job throughout the year as well as three long term volunteers, Lexie, Ross and Jenny who are retiring after many years of service. We thank you all for the contributions you make to our organisation and wish you all a very happy Christmas.

Congratulations to Meals on Wheels Devonport on celebrating their 50th Anniversay. What a great milestone to reach! To celebrate this occasion a luncheon will be held on the 15th December 2016. Inaugural Social Event

The very first Social Function for Meals on Wheels clients was held at The Claremont Hotel on Wednesday 9th November and a wonderful time was had by everyone who attended. Not only did our client enjoy a lovely meal but a few fun games were organised and there were a lot of nostalgic memories shared including a visit to Hobart’s very first notorious nightclub. The clients who attended are really already looking forward to catching up again at our future events. Our next social event will be a traditional Christmas lunch on Tuesday 20th December. We will have entertainment and a visit from Santa. If you know any Meals on Wheels clients who live in the greater Hobart, Glenorchy, Eastern Shore areas who would like to attend please call Leesa on 62720124. Transport can be arrange if required. The more the merrier!

State Conference and AGM 2016

Meals on Wheels Tasmania held their 20th State Conference at The Tramsheds Function Centre on Wednesday 28th September. The Conference was opened by Ross Hart MP who spoke about his own involvement with Meals on Wheels and knowing firsthand the sense of belonging, friendship and purpose that volunteering for Meals on Wheels provides. Our guest speaker of the day was Ngaire Hobbins. Ngaire specialises in geriatrics, is a lecturer in dementia studies at the University of Tasmania and is passionate about helping older people stay independent and healthy as they age. She gave a very informative and interesting talk on the dietary needs of older people. The Conference was followed by the Associations 45th AGM where a new version of The Meals on Wheels Association of Tasmanias constitution was passed with a substantial majority of the vote and four new life members (Kath Carnes, Judy Boon, Kaye Ling and Jenny Stones) were recognised for their many years of dedicated services to our Association.
